Mel
Lim's career in design started at a really
young age of 13, where she drafted
architectural plans using her sets of Rotring
Rapidograph pens, in her mother's small ID shop,
in Penang, Malaysia (where her idol designer,
Dato' Jimmy Choo grew up as well!) designing corporate interiors and hotels. She moved to
the U.S. at the age of 19 in pursuit of designing beautiful spaces, products and patterns.
After receiving her foundation design diploma from the
prestigious Central Saint Martins, Mel graduated with
Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Design from Art
Center College of Design with the highest distinction.
Mel is extremely honored to have worked with top architectural
and design firms in the U.S including Ellerbe Becket and
Kiku Obata & Co. and have gained international exposure
in multi-scaled projects from retail centers, museums,
casinos to stadiums and mixed-use developments.
She is a conceptualizer, a strategist, a businesswoman,
hailed as a style-maker, a demanding wife, and most of
all, an obssesive designer who loves chocolate. Today
this award-winning designer has her own line of lifestyle products sold under
JOY by Mel Lim™ and a vinyl graphics line called
Mel Lim by BLIK. Her work can be seen in London, Tokyo, Copenhagen, all the way to the UAE and has been recognized by numerous accolades including Creativity Annual, PRINT, GD USA and AIA LA.
