Exhibit Design New York International Gift Fair 2007 | 150 sq .ft.
Exhibit design is tricky, especially for a sustainable design team. We always find it hard to justify everything we build, buy or ship.
We’ve participated in enough trade shows to see the amount of waste companies produce simply to look amazing for a rather short amount of time. We are not saying that presentation is not important. But our goal is to truly evaluate every design & marketing decision we make. Is this going to function well? How do we ship it? How heavy is it? How long will it last? Do we really need this? What are our alternatives? Is it worth the investment?
Design Solutions:
Wall Panels: Our idea was to build hard wall panels that can hold shelving units to display our assortment of products. The hard wall panels are made of drywall sheets that can be assembled & dismantled by 2 people or less. Once the panels are setup, we can hang any display or signage on them. We also wanted a system that can be used repeatedly and walls that can be repainted in different colors if needed for our next trade show.
Floor + Furniture: For flooring, we used InterfaceFlOR carpeting. Shelving units were from West Elm and IKEA. Furniture pieces and lighting from IKEA.
Shipping + Assembly: Assembly and dismantling time is crucial to the logistics of trade show setup. We wanted a design that can be setup within 24 hours and be dismantled within a short amount of time without incurring additional labor or accomodations costs. The entire booth design was designed to fit into a reusable wooden crate that can be easily shipped and stored if necessary.
Signage + Graphics: Our logo was made into dimensional metal letters. Vinyl stickers were also used for graphics to showcase our Mel Lim by BLIK vinyl collection.
